Edge Mainentance
Safety first! Get proper clothing, gloves and eye protection!
Maintaining your edges can give you a great advantage, especially in non-powder conditions. Tuning is about a 10 minute job, if you have the right tools and some helpful tips.
Each edge or strip of metal on your skis or snowboard has two parts - a base edge and a side edge. Check out the steps below:
- Use a "stone" (hard or soft) to remove all rough spots on your edges.
- Use your flat file and sharpen the base edges. Always run the file in the direction of the teeth. Pull form tip to tail. Several full passes should sharpen the base edges. Sharpen the other base edge.
- Use your flat file and sharpen your side edges. A "file guide" is very useful on the side edges, as you always want to keep a consistent angle when sharpening. Once again, go from tip to tail.
We recommend you take a lesson from a certified repair technician, you can probably find one at your local ski area. If you have questions, give us an email - [email protected].
